THE WINEGROWER’S HOUSE

A retreat on the south bank of the Wachau

Built as early as the 17th century, the winegrower’s house for up to five occupants, with up to two baby cots on request, will inspire and delight you and give you a sense of warmth and homeliness, happiness, comfort, energy – whatever you are looking for and need at the moment.

Everything that makes life more beautiful has been thought of on 127 square metres. More valuable. More perfect. Restored with great attention to detail, renovated, decorated, and yet modern and equipped with materials and appliances of the highest quality, in addition to an unforgettable landscape, this place of blissful tranquillity alone will make your stay in Lower Austria an experience you will remember with pleasure.

Whether you loved to warm yourself by the fireplace and in the living room with a book on your knees or by the wood stove in the kitchen with a tasty snack, whether you found it great to have breakfast on the terrace or to heat the pizza oven in the outdoor kitchen, whether you most enjoyed relaxing in the sauna or swimming in the pool, whether you found it most wonderful to pick the cherries, apricots, apples or plums directly from the tree into your mouth or to stroll through the garden with a glass of wine from the vintner next door ... you will remember everything warmly!

This house is full of history

Our winegrowers' house has existed since the 17th century. Typically, all homes at risk from flooding were built with one storey. Our house has been enlarged, remodelled, and complemented over the centuries. We have carefully restored it and bow to its venerable history: that is why there are odd walls, vaults, thick walls, and many unevennesses. Our house is, therefore, unfortunately not barrier-free.

However, there are also friends and partners whom we would particularly like to recommend to you.

Olive farm

Franz Bräuer and Rosemarie Zechmeister run their olive farm in Rapoltendorf, about 25 minutes from the Wachau. This is where they planted the first Spanish olive trees years ago, and where you will also find the production facility for olive products. Meanwhile, Franz and Rosemarie have made the olive a native product of the Wachau. In the immediate vicinity of our house, there is an olive grove where you can walk to see the olives for yourself.
Franz and Marie have created picnic areas in the middle of the olive grove and with a fabulous view over the Danube and the Wachau, which are so delightful that you no longer want to leave. A place so beautiful it makes you cry!

If you would like to visit the olive farm yourselves, please feel free to write to Franz: https://www.olivenhof.at

Nature in the Wachau

Apricots are a dime a dozen in the Wachau. And every apricot grower makes wonderful products from his fruit. But our favourite products are those of our Oberarnsdorf neighbours: marmalades and spirits by Conny Blauensteiner and Hermann Fechter. You can take a look here: www.wachaunatur.at and in the online shop. However, if you would like to know more about apricots and life as an apricot grower in the Wachau, you can book a guided tour of the apricot garden with Hermann and then buy an apricot in a jar from him and Conny. By the way: apart from the products made from apricots, Conny's lavender syrup is our insider tip!

Winery Fasching

What would the Wachau be without wine? Just a blink of an eye from our front door is the winery of the Fasching family. https://www.wachauerwein-fasching.at

No matter whether you choose a Grüner Veltliner or a Pinot Blanc or a Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains [Gelber Muskateller]: You will be happy! You are also welcome to taste the various wines after advance reservation. And many other things as well.

In any case, you will take great pleasure in the Falstaff award-winning wines, even if you end up taking them home with you.
